In solo exhibition MONKEY (2019), artist Niels Egidius pays tribute to the monkey. Ever since he was a child, he has been amazed by the way monkeys move: swinging playfully through the high foliage, jumping from tree to tree.

In these works, Egidius pays attention to the basic needs of primacy and the simple pleasure in life. The monkey invites him to lightly incorporate philosophical phantoms into his paintings. In a playful way, he creates alternative scenarios for the course of evolution, in which his naivety and childlike wonder prevail.

The exhibition took place at the Albert van Abbehuis in Eindhoven and was on view from august 30th until september 30th, 2019.

MONKEY was supported by Stichting Cultuur Eindhoven
