Niels collects inspiration for his works on paper in everyday life. He likes to wander on his own, following his curiosity and chasing daily life’s beauty and oddities. Being out in the streets or in nature often feels like playing outside for him. He observes the world passing by in a hurry while he is doing something close to… nothing.
In the series Sightseeing / side jobs Niels captures oddities on the work floor. Taking photos of the things he encounters at work feels like taking home souvenirs that can be translated into drawings. Over the years Niels has created an archive of these images. By reworking them he tries to create new connections and associations between them. They often start as loose ideas that slowly develop into series. It is only then that they starts to make more sense or form a narrative.
